My Sweet Grandpa

At this moment, I can’t seem to find the right words to encapsulate all that you meant to me, our family or even the body of Christ but like you would always encourage us, I will trust in the Lord to help me.

My grandfather lived his life in service to God and that has always been a shining example for us to follow. Just as he gave himself to the Lord’s service in His vineyard, he also made sure to encourage and teach us to only pursue the Lord.

For my grandpa, the only road one should travel was JESUS. The only lens one should see the world and people from was the Lord’s.

He would exhort, pray for, and encourage the Lord’s people in the way of the Lord and come back home to do the same with his family. The Lord was first priority in his life and from there all other things flowed.

It is no surprise the fruit of the spirit found expression in his life and manifested even unto others. Grandpa was the sweetest man ever. He was full of the love, joy, and peace of Christ. He never looked down on anyone. He lived a life of faith. He was funny and kind. He had the heartiest laughter and he always paid the closest attention to one. He was the easiest person to have a conversation with and he was full of the best stories.

There are many memories to share but there aren’t enough space to carry them. He would introduce us with such love to any visitor who was around him whenever we were present. He would say, “this is my granddaughter” or “this is my grandson” then go ahead and tell them all that we did.

He would always tell me, “momo, I was praying for you and…” or “Modupe, I am praying for you.” From you I was taught that to love is also to intercede on a person’s behalf. Grandpa was full of wisdom and generous with it.

He would call every time to check on me. I would tell him, “grandpa, I miss you” and he would say in Yoruba, “not as much as me”. Well, grandpa, who misses who the most now?

I thank God for the life he lived while he was here. It was a life completely dedicated to the Lord. It was one that drew people to the Lord. It was a life of joy, peace, love, and contentment in the Lord. It was a life that even in his passing still continues to point to Jesus.

This is our consolation and comfort; that you are now with your Lord. That you have fulfilled all that He has sent you to do and now you are home with our Lord. This is why, we won’t sorrow as those who have no hope. Instead, we will rest in the comfort and assurance that you are with Him and we shall all meet on that resurrection day.

Grandpa, my sweet grandpa, I love you now and I will always love you forever by the grace of God.
