My Dearest Grandpa
Sixteen years ago, when Grandma passed on, I received two mandates. The most important was the mandate to take care of you.
It didn’t actually make sense at the time, but as the years unfolded, I did it as best as the Lord will grant me grace. Only to realize it was a pathway to my ministerial assignment.
You were my number one man of God. You exemplified and embodied Christ. You had a great wealth of wisdom and leadership qualities. This was typified in every leadership position you occupied. You were so humble and Non-judgemental. You had so much love to share around everyone. You loved education, little wonder you could not resist going to the prestigious Harvard even in old age.
You were my friend, you would listen with rapt attention to any issue and we will disect the Word(Bible) together.
When you asked me to come four days to your demise, and I tarried for one day before coming, I didn’t realize they were the last moments.
You were a fashionista; little wonder you showered and wore a new finely sewn wine native with black loafers, not forgetting to wear your wristwatch or spray your perfume as you proceeded on your final Journey.
Dear God’s General, the heaven rejoices as you joined the Cloud of witnesses, cheering us on in this Christian journey.
If I knew they were final moments, like Elisha, I would have asked for a double or even triple portion.
Thank you for your impact on the body of Christ.
Thank you for the altar you raised for the family.
Thank you for showing us what love is and meant.
I pray for Grace to run this race with Grace and splendour as you did.
Until resurrection morning when I see you again.
Sweet is the remembrance of the righteous.
Goodnight, my beloved grandfather.
