Early Life

Pastor (Dr.) Gabriel Oladele Olutola was born on April 4, 1933, in Oke-Ibode, Osun State, to parents Jacob Aluko Fatufehinti Olutola and Abigail Aderemi Olutola. He was the third child of his parents but the only one who survived infancy. After recovering from a life-threatening encounter with smallpox as a baby, he grew up under the care of his grandmother until she died in 1945. He began formal education at St. John’s Primary School, Oke-Ibode, when he was over 13. Due to his maturity and intelligence, he completed his education in six years instead of the customary duration of nine, earning double promotions along the way.

Pastor Olutola was born into a humble Christian family in southern Nigeria. His parents, devout followers of Christ, played a significant role in shaping his spiritual journey from a young age. His first introduction to prayer and the study of scriptures was at the family’s nightly worship routines, which he attended even as a toddler. This helped sow the seeds of faith, devotion, and a deep sense of service in his heart.

Despite growing up in a small town, Olutola’s early life was profoundly shaped by a fervour for learning and the wide horizons of his faith. He excelled academically, receiving merit awards and leading his school’s debate team to national victories. However, his academic pursuits never overshadowed his spiritual growth. He was known as a top student and a devoted Christian, often leading in morning assemblies and Scripture Union activities. His religious knowledge and spiritual experiences made him a favourite among the elders of his church. He actively participated in midweek services, Bible study groups, and prayer meetings, not just content with Sunday worship.

Pastor Olutola’s early life planted the seeds of excellence, faith, and leadership to guide his path towards pastoral work and beyond. His journey, marked by fervour and an unwavering trust in God’s plan, continues to inspire thousands, marking him as a beacon of spiritual leadership in his community and beyond.

Education and Skill Development

Pastor (Dr.) Olutola, Gabriel Oladele (JP), had his Primary Education at the St. John Primary School, Oke-Ibode, in Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria, between 1948 and 1954. He underwent private studies for his General Certificate of Education (GCE) ‘O’ Level in 1968.

After primary school and (GCE) O’ Level, Pastor Olutola’s thirst for knowledge continued as he trained in various fields. He underwent casual field overseas training at More Plantation, Ibadan, and attended the Apostolic Bible College in Ilesa and The Apostolic Church’s International Bible College in Pennygroes, UK. He also obtained a certificate in Effective Christian Religious Communication at the University of Ibadan and later earned a certificate in Theology and Leadership from Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA.

Pastor Olutola’s early career was not in the religious sphere but in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Osogbo. After his training in agricultural management at the Moore Plantation Institute of Agriculture Research & Training, he was assigned to the poultry division. Efficient and diligent, Pastor Olutola utilised his agricultural skills, supporting himself for several months. Pastor Olutola also developed vocational talents. He learned tailoring, specialising in the craft of English-style suits. However, with a deep-seated desire for education and a drive to develop a deeper intimacy with God, his spiritual growth was rapid, culminating in his ordination as an Elder in The Apostolic church, Ilesa.
